Shared Inheritances: Nupur Academy of Dance
Visit the Troy Public Library on Sunday, May 23, 3 pm, and enjoy Indian classical and folk dances performed by children ages 5-17, from Troy's Nupur Academy of Dance, under the direction of Radhika Acharya. Radhika was trained in Bharatanatyam style of dance by the guru M. N. Suvarna of Arunodya Kala Niketan.
This event honors our community's broad multicultural traditions and will take place in the Library Meeting Room. Register online for this free event or call 248.524.3542.

Shared Inheritances: Taal Academy of Dance
Come to the Troy Public Library on Sunday May 16, at 3 pm, and enjoy a wonderful program presented by the Taal Academy of Dance from Troy, under the supervision of Manisha Dongre.
Dongre has choreographed several compositions and presented those in several events in India, the United States, and Canada. Some of the noteworthy compositions are Gayatri Hriday, Nritya Sankirtan, Nav Ras, Shatarangini and Aisi Lagi Lagan, all of which have received great reviews.

Art and Architecture of the Renaissance with Michael Farrell
Come to the TroyPublic Library on Sunday, April 18, at 3:30 pm to hear Michael Farrell discuss Flemish Renaissance art and architecture.
Bruges became the most important trading city of Flanders during the 15th century and produces masters such as Campin, Van Eyck, Van der Weyden and Van der Goes. Farrell will discuss these and other "Fathers" of the Flemish Renaissance.

Concert Series Finale - Sunday, March 21
Welcome spring with the final concert of the Troy Public Library's Sunday Series featuring the chamber music repertoire and warmly blended sound of the Adventure Club Cello Quartet. This ensemble is comprised of four area cellists: Naomi Levine, David Levine, Irina Tichkhonova and Debra Shuster. While several of the performers have delighted Library audiences at previous Sunday Afternoons with the Arts events, this is their first visit as a grouping of four cellists.
The performance is free of charge and sponsored by the Friends of Troy Public Library. Go to the Library's program calendar to register beginning March 15.

Elizabeth I of England
Elizabeth I was Henry VIII's daughter, England's Glorianna, and the first monarch to have an era named after her. Come to the Troy Public Library on Sunday, March 14, at 3:30 pm, to hear Maureen Esther lead a jewel-studded discussion of the life and times of the legendary Elizabeth I, whose steady course for England would set the foundation for the colonization of America.
This program is in honor of Women's History Month.

Bulgarian Art Day
Long-time Troy resident and pianist Angelina Pashmakova, and Ivan Ivanov, a young Bulgarian clarinetist, will be performing in concert for Bulgarian Art Day, on Sunday, January 31, at 3 pm, at the Troy Public Library.
Ivanov, a graduate student at Eastern Michigan University, became, at the age of 20, the youngest member of the Bulgarian Philharmonic Orchestra. Together, Pashmakova and Ivanov will play premiere pieces of Bulgarian composers Remenkov, Tekeliev and Stojanov.
In addition, Dimitrina Koleva, a graduate of the University of Sofia Kliment Ohridski, will lecture on the history and culture of the Thracian-Ancient Tribes. These tribes created a priceless cultural heritage in the lands of present-day Bulgaria and Romania, as well as other regions of the Balkan Peninsula and Asia Minor.
