June is Adopt-A-Shelter-Cat Month
June is Adopt-A-Shelter-Cat Month, and both the Humane Society and the Association for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) encourage those considering adopting a cat to remember the local shelter. There are many wonderful cats waiting to find a home (like my cat, Holly Golightly).
You can use books from the Troy Public Library to help you learn about taking care of your new feline friend. Check out the display in the Library's Adult Services Department near the Technology Center the next time you visit. You may also wish to browse in the 636.8 section for additional titles.

Thank you for your article. There are so very many wonderful cats and dogs out there looking for a good home. Unfortunately, the Humane Society euthanizes animals they cannot place, which, of course, is not humane at all.
Instead, I encourage you to support one of the adoption locations in your community that do not euthanize. Both Petsmart and Petco use agencies that do not euthanize. They also hold adoption events in their stores. In fact, Petsmart has a form on its website to find the perfect animal for your home. Go to http://adoptions.petsmart.com/
There are many wonderful local rescue organizations here in the metro Detroit area. Please try to find the perfect pet for you and support organizations that do not euthanize.
While I am wholeheartedly in support of organizations that do not euthanize, wouldn't it be a good idea to save an animal that would otherwise be euthanized by adopting from the Humane Society?
