Art and Architecture of the Renaissance with Michael Farrell
Come to the TroyPublic Library on Sunday, April 18, at 3:30 pm to hear Michael Farrell discuss Flemish Renaissance art and architecture.
Bruges became the most important trading city of Flanders during the 15th century and produces masters such as Campin, Van Eyck, Van der Weyden and Van der Goes. Farrell will discuss these and other "Fathers" of the Flemish Renaissance.
Register for this lecture online or phone 248.524.3542. Registration is limited to 120 per event.
This program is generously funded by the Friends of the Troy Public Library. For additional information, contact Dr. Maria Hunciag.

My wife & I have attended most of Dr. Farrell's presentations during the last few years. He is one of the best lecturers on the history of art that we've experienced. Lively, humorous, somewhat controversial, but fulled with so much information that one wonders where the 90 minutes went (mostly on Sundays.) We will miss these if the library is closed or funding isn't included for culural activities. I cannot imagine how a few dollars out each resident's and business owner's income is dearer than the education and knowledge imparted. One would think that a generally well-educated population would realize that the arts are important. More than Piston games, more than pop music at the DTE Energy Center. If all you want is TV, if you refuse to read books, listen to good live music and dumb down your fellow citizens & their childre, then refuse to fund the library. Didn't you use the library when you were in school? Wasn't it important to your education? Communities are shared experiences. To paraphrase, it takes a village to educate EVERYONE!
