2010 Newbery and Caldecott Award Winners

When You Reach Me by Rebecca Stead has won the 2010 Newbery Medal for most outstanding contribution to children's literature.

Miranda's life in late 1970s New York City seems fairly normal until she recieves a mysterious message: "I have come to save your friend's life and my own." Who left the message and how did they get into her room? Then things begin changing. Her best friend doesn't want to be around her, there is a very strange new boy in class, a homelss man has started hanging out on the corner and Miranda has to make new friends.

The Lion & the Mouse illustrated and written by Jerry Pinkney won the 2010 Caldecott Medal for most distinguished American picture book.

The Lion & the Mouse is an adaptation of Aesop's fable about a kindness offered and a kindness repaid. Despite enormous differences between the animals, the tale is wordless and told completely in artwork and pictures.
