Sunday Concerts at the Library

Sunday Afternoons with the Arts at the Library  will feature music of the balalaika with Gennady Zut on December 13, at 3 pm in the Library's Meeting Room.

BalalaikaEnjoy works played on the balalaika, a triangular stringed instrument well-known to audiences through Lara's Theme from the film, Doctor Zhivago. Gennady Zut will perform with his wife, pianist Tatyana Zut. Gennady and Tatyana moved to the United States from Russia in 1992.

An acclaimed virtuoso in his native Russia, Gennady Zut now shares the magic of the balalaika with audiences in America and Europe... Critics hailed him as "a truly communicative stylist who made the impossible seem easy..."

"When I first heard Gennady Zut play the balalaika... I immediately invited him to perform with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra... Mr. Zut is an outstanding virtuoso... His sensitive, emotional playing demonstrates the truly wonderful expressive qualities of the balalaika with taste and style. Mr. Zut also performs in a duo with his wife Tatyana, who is an excellent pianist..."

Neeme Jarvi, Music Director Emeritus, Detroit Symphony Orchestra
